What is Beetles?

A high-performance financial infrastructure platform for modern applications.

What is Beetles?

Beetles.cloud is a financial infrastructure platform that provides a simple, powerful API for financial accounting and money movement.

It enables developers to build payment systems, wallets, marketplaces, and any application that requires correct, auditable money movement — without reinventing the wheel.

Why Beetles?

ChallengeHow Beetles Solves It
Double-entry bookkeeping is hardEnforced at the engine level — every transfer has a debit and a credit
Financial data must be immutableAll transfers are append-only. No updates, no deletions
Concurrency & race conditionsDesigned for high TPS with strict serialization
Settlement & receivablesNative two-phase transfers with scheduled settlement workflows
AuditabilityEvery transaction has a full audit trail with timestamps and references

The Lifecycle of a Transfer

Beetles goes beyond simple A-to-B ledger entries. It handles complex, multi-stage money movement natively. Here is the complete lifecycle of a Split Transfer with Scheduled Settlement:

Abstract System Architecture

To achieve this level of reliability, Beetles is built on a distributed, highly decoupled architecture. We abstract away the complexity of the underlying storage and workflow constraints.

  • API Gateway: The entry point. Handles authentication, validation, authorization, and workspace isolation. It is completely stateless.
  • Double-Entry Engine: A specialized, high-performance execution environment dedicated strictly to accounting mathematics. It ensures balances can never dip below zero unless explicitly allowed, and that every credit has a matching debit.
  • Durable Settlement Engine: A fault-tolerant worker layer that pauses and resumes execution. If a server dies halfway through a 30-day settlement hold, the workflow automatically resumes on another node at the exact right millisecond.
  • Relational Metadata Store: Since the ledger engine is optimized for math (not text), all rich data like customer names, JSON metadata, rules, and watchers are managed here and correlated seamlessly by the API.

Key Concepts

  • Ledger — An isolated financial environment (like a chart of accounts). You can have multiple ledgers for different currencies, business units, or purposes.

  • Account — A container for tracking balances using double-entry bookkeeping. Every ledger starts with a special @world funding account.

  • Transfer — An atomic movement of money from one account to another. Can be instant, pending (auth & capture), or scheduled (settlement).

  • Identity — A label that groups multiple accounts under the same entity. Beetles does not store personal data — identities are optional markers you can enrich with your own metadata.
